Thobela FM wins two awards at the Liberty Radio Awards

“Congratulations to Nkgadimeng Kekana for winning Best Breakfast Presenter and the entire Breakfast team for winning the Community Project Award through the Ex-Convict Empowerment  feature at the recent Liberty Radio Awards”.

These were the words of SABC Limpopo PGM Ms. Tshamano Makuya as she congratulated Thobela FM, in particular the Ditlalemeso breakfast team who were named winners at the Liberty Radio Awards, previously well-known as MTN Radio Awards

The PGM said the province was indeed very proud of this achievement, thanking the team and the entire station for flying SABC Limpopo flag high.

The event which took place Saturday April 22, 2017 at the Sandton Convention Centre saw Nkgadimeng Kekana, who co-presents the station’s Morning Breakfast show with Sebasa Mogale, and is produced by DJ Boeli, winning the Best PBS Breakfast Presenter. The same team(pictured) also walked away with Best Community Project.

Station Manager Ms. Mosh Matsena said as the station they really felt honoured to receive the two awards, adding the achievement is even more appreciated because it assists the station with self-evaluation and assessment. Said Ms. Mosh Matsena, “I want to congratulate the morning drive team for the achievements, especially Nkgadimeng Kekana who is relatively a new comer in PBS coming from a community station. We were taking a chance when we put her on this show but  she never took the position for granted and continued to work hard. I’m proud of her. I also want to congratulate and encourage all the other nominees from the station , since that in itself is an indication that they are doing something right; actually they are the best. I’m also really honoured to be part of this winning station and to have such a dedicated team”.

According to Liberty the Liberty Radio Awards aims to present a credible, well-judged transparent programme that promotes and recognises excellence in radio, with the objective of ensuring that radio remains one of South Africa’s foremost media choices. “It’s about rewarding those individuals and organisations who combine talent, hard work and skill to ensure that their listeners are compelled. It’s about securing the future of the radio industry by rewarding excellence and motivating the constant and consistent raising of standards”.
